The Friendless Man

Back in 2008,

I posted my take on the principle “Never Marry a Man Who Has No Friends.”  For those click link commitment phobes:  to sum it all up, men who do not have close bonds with others usually have intimacy issues and lackluster communication habits.  Father Pat Conner, and forget religion here- it’s not about that- draws from 40 yrs serving as a marital counseler.

His lecture, “Men Not to Marry” is worth the read.  Father Pat Conner just makes sense.

“Steer clear of someone whose life you can run, who never makes demands counter to yours. It’s good to have a doormat in the home, but not if it’s your husband.”

Seven years and 31 comments later, I believe the time has come to revisit this theory.

Tell me this:  Why is “Never Marry a Man Who Has No Friends” the most popular blog post of all time? (Personally speaking, of course.)  There was something special about it, and it hit a nerve.   Comrade-less men from across the globe defended/explained their reasons for not needing friends.  Then came the feedback from women who shared their experiences dating a man with no friends.  The comments section was passionate.  Fiery.  Most of all, deep.  I love getting intense.  So, many thanks to all the readers out there.  Thank you for giving a f*ck and actually taking time out of your day to respond.  As a writer, there is no greater compliment than the engagement of readers.

For this, I am dropping a bombshell.   I recently married a man who appears to not have close friendships. It’s worth mentioning; I’m not a hypocrite.

Talk about irony.
